Trauma Therapy - Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Did you know that over 80% of individuals experience a major trauma in their lifetime? Trauma therapy focuses on the body, thoughts and emotions that develop (or become exacerbated) by the trauma. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) focuses on the thoughts that keep an individual stuck. These thoughts can be about oneself, others or the world. We work together to identify those thoughts, challenge them and create new balanced thoughts that are in line with your treatment goals. If that doesn't sound helpful, we can work together to identify the type of trauma therapy that would be the most effective (hint: it may be a combination).

Anxiety exists on a spectrum -- on one end it is adaptive and functions to help us, and on the other end it stops us from functioning in our everyday life. Whether you're experiencing anxiety due to school, work, life demands or something else, treatment focuses on identifying the cause and finding a solution that works for you. This treatment is highly individualized and focuses on more than the emotion, but also the physical sensations, thoughts and behaviours related to anxiety. The goal is for the anxiety to become adaptive again.

Our self-esteem can be threatened by daily experiences. Building up your self-esteem can help to reduce anxiety, decrease depression and increase progress towards life goals. A low self-esteem can result in behaviour problems, social isolation, difficulties in school, difficulties in relationships and much more. Self-esteem is often related to symptoms of many different mental health disorders, and an individualized approach is helpful to identifying the root cause and the best strategies to improve self-esteem. Let's figure that out together.
